Việt Thi Fights Back!

After being quiet for so long, Việt Thi AKA Vũ Lynn Cathy is speaking to Mốt & Cuộc Sống, a newly magazine for women in Vietnam. Việt Thi opens up on the relationship with Johnny Trí Nguyễn AKA Minh Trí, their two children and how she feels about Ngô Thanh Vân. Did she really spoil him too much? Cathy was only doing her part, supporting her husband and allowing him to pursuit his career. She was willing to take the back seat, in order for Johnny Trí Nguyễn to shine through. Things have worked out very well for Trí, but what about Thi? What did she gain from his success? She lost the love of her life. Nowadays it is Johnny Trí Nguyễn and Ngô Thanh Vân who is taking center stage and promoting their love each and every day.

Before The Rebel – Dòng Máu Anh Hùng, and Johnny Trí Nguyễn and Ngô Thanh Vân's Thailand fame, was a sweet and innocent friendship between Minh Trí and Việt Thi. The cute and adorable pair appeared on Vân Sơn Entertainment stage, singing and dancing together. Minh Trí and Việt Thi showed great chemistry. They were really the best of friends. It was Minh Trí who wanted to pursuit a relationship further than friendship. Việt Thi wasn’t sure if she wanted to be more than just friends. However, after some time, Việt Thi found herself attached to Trí and they were soon married in 2000, producing two girls, Hailey (5 years old) and Taylor (3 years old).






















Their short-lived marriage didn’t last the test of time. At the end of 2005, the family moved to Vietnam for the convenience of Johnny to film The Rebel. The plan was to only stay until the film finish production. However, in Vietnam work was very well for Johnny, and so the family stayed for Johnny Trí Nguyễn to pursuit his dream. At the time, Taylor was only six months old, and so Cathy’s parents flew from the U.S. over to help take care.

Cathy was never worried that Johnny would leave her for another, because she had faith in herself as good wife and trust in their relationship. They knew each other for 12 years, and when Cathy was 18 years old. She didn’t know of love and only knew of Johnny. Johnny back then was a skinny looking guy, not as polish, and he was poor. When they would go out, he would buy her many things, but he had ask his mother for money. Johnny was very into film at the time, but his job was only to hold the camera and work with lightning.
















During the production of The Rebel, Cathy would ask Johnny if he thought of Ngô Thanh Vân as beautiful. He would go off saying how he thought she was not pretty and pointed out what he considered to be her flaws. It didn’t occur to Cathy that Ngô Thanh Vân was the third person. Even with all the gossips about their romance when the film started to finish; Cathy would only think that Johnny Trí Nguyễn and Ngô Thanh Vân meet to discuss about their film.

At the time of the premiere of The Rebel, in the U.S., both Ngô Thanh Vân and Johnny Trí Nguyễn flew over to Texas, and stayed longer than planned. At this time Cathy was in California with her parents. A very close friend emailed Cathy warning that maybe Cathy should fly back with Johnny. But it was a bit too late. After Johnny returned from Texas, the next day, he bought up that they should split. Cathy was the last to know. She was very heartbroken.

It was not the first time that Cathy was hurt by Johnny. While filming in Thailand, he was with someone and also another in Vietnam. In both incidents, Cathy forgave him. After having Taylor, the two work hard to maintain their relationship. But it was not good enough. More threatening than a small fling here and there was a bigger and widely acclaimed romance onscreen that didn’t just end there but carry on into real life. The Rebel made Johnny Trí Nguyễn and Ngô Thanh Vân its lead and ultimately a couple.

















People ask why Cathy didn’t try to get Johnny back, why she let go so quickly after. Why she didn't do this and that. She did tried, but she cannot hold on to someone who doesn’t love her anymore. Even though she has two young girls who need their father by their side. Johnny Trí Nguyễn was never at home to begin with. He has always placed work as top priority and his family, not as important. Johnny was always working and worries about work, he was hardly at home to take the girls out or even care for them. Therefore Cathy felt no need to hold on to someone who has no time for his children, who isn’t a father figure or a family man.

In an email to Ngô Thanh Vân, Cathy wrote that if the two are truly in love, she will not stand in the middle and would take a step back. As a response, Ngô Thanh Vân wrote that she loves Johnny very much and that she doesn’t want to do this. But the two of them really love one another, and this cannot be prevented. If Cathy steps back, Ngô Thanh Vân and Johnny Trí Nguyễn will continue. If Johnny decides to fight for his marriage with Cathy, Ngô Thanh Vân would step back. However, Ngô Thanh Vân and Johnny Trí Nguyễn are really in love, and if this go through. She will allow Johnny to care for his daughters. After reading the response email from Ngô Thanh Vân, Cathy felt trouble by her words, especially when she said that she would allow Johnny to care for his children. (Who is she to permit Johnny to visit his kids?). Cathy felt no need to response back.

After the split, Johnny Trí Nguyễn hardly comes by to see the kids. He only comes when he needs something done. If lucky enough, he would take his kids out once a month. He is very busy. Cathy cares for the kids, even when they are sick, because Johnny is clueless. For example, when the kids have asthma, he didn’t know what to do to stop them from coughing. Nowadays, Cathy is busy working on the movie “14 Days” starring Trịnh Hội. The kids are under the care of their grandparents and a caretaker. Currently Cathy and kids reside in Vietnam, but in future she plans to take them back to California.
